Centre Stage
July 21—July 25, 2008
July 28—August 1, 2008

Overview

Centre Stage is a summer program at Milton Academy for children ages, 10 – 14.  Participants may sign up for one or both sessions.

Centre Stage explores the exciting world of theater arts through a variety of activities, projects and performances.  In each session, children are guided through the play production process, from the first reading of the script to the final bows.

Early in the week, students are cast in a play and practice basic performance skills by participating in theater games, improvisation, scene work, and playwriting exercises.  Throughout the session, they rehearse their parts and experiment with the technical aspects of theater, including sets, costumes, props, make-up, lighting and sound.  Finally ready for performance, the cast will present their production to family and friends on the stage of Milton Academy’s King Theatre.

Centre Stage Director

William Deschenes (B.A., Theater Arts; M.Ed) has been teaching drama in the Milton Public Schools for 13 years.  He is the founder of the Pierce Players, an after school drama club, for which he writes and directs two productions per year.  Prior to that, he taught technical theater and designed scenery at the Walnut Hill Summer Theater School.  In 2003, Mr. Deschenes was the recipient of the Milton Foundation for Education’s Outstanding Teacher Award.

“I think the quality of the plays (including the sets!) is truly remarkable after only one week of rehearsal.  Mr. Deschenes never ceases to amaze me.”
“I had a great time and got some good advice from more experienced actors.  I can’t wait until next year!”

“My daughter loved designing the set props.”

“My child really enjoyed the teachers, games and the play performance.”
