Personal Learning Using Sports

  • The P.L.U.S. is “Personal Learning Using Sports”.  During the “Personal Learning Period” (PLP), adult group leaders lead campers in fun activities and learning projects to build self-respect, good sportsmanship, healthy lifestyles and critical thinking.
  • Some activities during the campers PLP are reading about athletes and sports, writing in a personal journal, figuring out strategy problems and working together on sports related art projects.
  • Our goal is for campers to leave Sports P.L.U.S. better, more confident athletes and students.  Responsibility, respect, teamwork, discipline, perseverance, kindness and caring for others are distinct values coached on the fields and taught in the classrooms that will help campers achieve this goal.

Staff

Our staff creates a fun and challenging environment for your child.  Each group is led by an adult leader, counselor and a counselor in training.  We strive to hire adult leaders who are school teachers during the year, so they can bring their leadership and teaching skills to camp.  Our counselors are all college or high school age; some are previous Sports P.L.U.S. campers.  The sports coaches bring experience from all levels to help your child build new skills or try a new sport.  We take pride in our staff and some of them have been with Sports P.L.U.S. for many years.

Swimming

Campers receive swim lessons every day as part of our sport rotation; they are evaluated at the beginning of camp and placed in appropriate levels.  Following the Red Cross model, our certified water safety instructors help campers to develop their swimming abilities.  Occasionally, there are times when campers get a free swim period.
