At Milton Academy, we fervently believe that all students can be artists whether through acting, dancing, speaking or designing. With suggestions and instructions from professional teachers, all students can reach into their imaginations, find a powerful form of expression and create compelling works. The courses and programs of the performing arts department provide students with the opportunity to discover this artist within – to learn the discipline of a particular kind of performance, to appreciate the work of others, to prepare for a life-long interest, and to embrace those experiences which can bring beauty and meaning into their lives. Like the athletic department, the performing arts department has a very public program. More than half of our offerings take place in performance spaces and exist for judgment from audiences of students, parents and faculty. We mount ten plays a year, from the sixth grade musical to the Middle School play, and a myriad of Upper School dramas, comedies and musicals. In addition, we present a yearly dance concert and help with other campus performances including theme assemblies and senior baccalaureate.
