Faculty

Paul Archer joins the Classics Department this year from Hotchkiss School, where he was the chair of the Classics Department. Educated in Classics at the University of California at Berkeley and Cambridge University, Mr. Archer has experience teaching all levels of Latin and Greek, as well as English, at top prep schools. In addition to his role in the Classics Department, Mr. Archer is the advisor to the Milton Measure.

Wells Hansen teaches in the Classics Department and is head of Wolcott House.  In 2007-2008 he is serving as acting Department Head of Classics. After studying Classics at Boston College, he earned a masters degree in Classics at The University of Chicago and a doctorate in Teaching and Sociolinguistics at The University of Massachusetts. He joined the Milton Academy faculty in 1993. He has published numerous articles and papers in academic journals and reference books.  In 2005, Dr. Hansen was appointed to the College Board’s AP Latin Development Committee. Before coming to Milton Academy, he was a member of the Foreign Language Department at Princeton Day School and a lecturer in Classics at The University of Chicago. Phone: 617-898-1790.

Frank Millet joined  Milton Academy faculty 1942. Educated at Harvard College, Mr. Millet also serves as an associate Director of Admission and has an endowed chair in Admissions named in his honor.

Sarah Wehle joined the Classics Department in 1977. She is the Department Head and holds the Sarah Storer Goodwin Chair in Teaching. Ms. Wehle, educated at Radcliffe College and Harvard University, is a winner of the Classical Association of New England's Matthew I. Weincke Teaching Award and Milton Academy's Talbot Baker Award. A former Dean of Studies, Ms. Wehle is this year serving as Interim Principal of the Upper School. Phone: 617-898-2361.
