The Mountain School is a one-semester program
in which 45 Class III students from public and private schools throughout
the United States spend four months on a working farm. Students
from more than 20 schools join a corps of faculty in a rigorous
interdisciplinary program which is centered on issues of community
and the environment. Students work along with faculty to help manage
the farm, its gardens and animals, as well as its facilities. The
semester is an ongoing exercise in individual responsibility and
group cooperation. As many as nine students from Milton Academy
will be selected to attend The Mountain School each year.
Academic courses are designed with several principles
in mind:
- provide a rigorous, integrated learning experience
- take advantage of the unique physical and social characteristics
of the Mountain School
- prepare students to return successfully to their demanding school curriculums
