Though
home for me is now Robbins House (a girls’ house at Milton),
I still tell people I’m from Cumberland, Maine that’s where
I grew up and went to public high school. Reluctant to leave
the state so soon, I went to Colby College, graduating with
a B.A. in government. After working in the public policy arena
in Washington, DC for a couple of years, I moved to Philadelphia,
where I received my M.S.Ed. in higher education administration
from the University of Pennsylvania.
In February of 1996, I was fortunate
enough to be in the right place at the right time when Milton
needed someone to fill an opening in its College Office. My
husband, James, and I live on Milton’s campus in Robbins House,
a dorm of 40 girls in Classes IV-I, with our golden retriever,
Maddy. (James commutes to Wellesley High School where he is
a school counselor and football and track coach.) In addition
to college counseling and house parenting, I am the faculty
advisor to the Jewish Student Union and a member of the Outreach
Team. In the past, I have interviewed prospective students
for the office of admission, taught a section of Human Sexuality
and Relationships, and worked on search committees to find
the Director of the Mountain School and Milton’s chaplain.
I have also previously been involved with the planning of
the Boarding Staff Conference, a program for faculty who are
new to living and working in boarding schools.
For fun during the winter, I ski.
In the summer, I like to play tennis, roller blade, travel,
and read; I’m trying to learn to play golf, but that has been
a painstaking process!
It is a privilege, and an enormous
amount of fun, to work and live at Milton Academy. I consider
myself lucky.
