The girls' cross country program at Milton is one of the finest
in the ISL. Every year between 20 and 30 girls gather after Labor
Day to train under the watchful eyes of Richard Buckner. Training
across the large Milton campus and in the surrounding town of Milton,
the girls in this individualistic sport are encouraged to think
and work as a team toward a shared goal. Richard's motivational
speeches are legendary at Milton and have resulted in accomplishments
even the athletes themselves have found extraordinary.
While the team practices together, there are opportunities
for runners at several levels to compete at Milton. Most ISL meets
have both a 1st team and sub-varsity race, and all athletes are
encouraged to run.
