9/6 @ Nobles (Scrim) 2:00
9/13Exeter 2:30 L 6 - 0
The Girl’s Varsity Field Hockey field was lined with spectators and parents this past Saturday for the girl’s first game of the season. Milton started off strong and maintained possession in their attacking end during the first part of the first half, but an experienced and strong attacking line scored 6 goals by the end of the game. Although Milton lost 6-0, the team as a whole showed improvement since last year and several players were mentioned by Exeter’s coaches as showing very strong field hockey skills. It was clear that although they did not win the game, each player put a tremendous amount of effort into the match and will learn from the experience as they move into their season.
9/20Choate 1:00 T 0 - 0 ot
The Girls Varsity Field Hockey Team had a great game against Choate on Saturday, September 20. Milton truly played as a team and connected very well with each other on the field. The defense did an incredible job getting the ball out of our defensive end and made great passes up the field to our attackers. The game got even more exciting when the girls went into a sudden victory ten minute overtime with a group of 6 Milton field players and our goalie Sarah, who made a number of key saves throughout the game. The final score was 0-0 after neither team scored during overtime, but Milton looks forward to continuing its trend of playing great hockey against BB&N on Wednesday.
9/24 @ BB&N 3:00 L 2 - 1
The Girl’s Varsity Field Hockey Team traveled to BB&N this past Wednesday for their first ISL match this season.  BB&N scored the first goal, but Milton answered back with a crisp shot on net.  The goal was scored by new team member Natalie Chaves, who was assisted by captain Caitlin Hickey with a great pass from the top of the circle.  After a Milton dominated second half, the teams went into a sudden victory overtime.  Although Milton controlled play for the first part of the overtime, BB&N put a goal into the net, making the final score 2-1. The team looks forward to playing on more turf fields later in the season.
9/27 @ Middlesex 1:30 L 4 - 1
The Girl’s Varsity Field hockey team traveled to Middlesex this past Saturday for their second ISL game. Luckily, the rain held off for the majority of the game and allowed the team to play a full game on the turf field . Middlesex scored early in the first half but Milton managed to only allow three goals after that. Milton’s defensive players stood out consistently throughout the game and together with goalie Sarah Evans, prevented a good number of shots taken by the very strong Middlesex squad. Senior Alex Remar put a great goal in the back of the Middlesex net, making the final score 4-1
10/1 @ Brooks 3:15 L 2 - 1
Milton field hockey lost another close game to a strong Brooks squad 2-1. Brooks came out firing, pushing Milton back into their defensive end early in the first half. Milton fought back and played Brooks evenly throughout the rest of the game. Brooks scored first with a scramble and some physical play in front of the net. Milton answered in the second half with a goal off a penalty corner on a push pass to Caitlin Hickey from Alex Jaeger. Hickey passed to Micaela Conners who found Biz Kechejian in front of the net. Kechejian bumped the ball by the Brooks keeper for the goal. Brooks responded with what turned out to be the game-winning goal when they scored on a penalty corner tipping the initial shot in from the post. Milton had some offensive flurries as time ran out but wasn't able to capitalize. Goalie Sarah Evans helped keep the game within reach with several key saves. Milton hopes to turn things around as they travel to Tabor on Saturday.
10/4 @ Tabor 3:30 L 2 - 1
Milton field hockey is still looking for their first win. Despite their strongest offensive effort this season, the Mustangs came up short losing to Tabor 2-1. Tabor controlled the game for the first 15 minutes and scored first. After the first 15 minutes of play, the momentum shifted Milton's way and Biz Kechejian scored on a rebound off a shot to goal from Sarah Loucks from a hit in the circle from Katie Bean. Milton came onto the field in the second half energized. Tabor had only a few offensive chances in the second half but made the most of them when they scored again in the first few minutes of the second half. After that it was all Milton. The Mustangs dominated play and controlled the game most of the second half. They outshot Tabor 9 to 2 with several hard shots just missing the net. Tabor's goalie was very aggressive and pressured Milton's forwards, making several great saves on 2nd and 3rd shot attempts. It was a nail-biting last 5 minutes of the game with Milton maintaining relentless offensive pressure. Goalie, Sarah Evans had another respectable outing in net with 12 saves.
10/8Andover 3:00 T 0 - 0
The Girls Varsity Field Hockey team tied Andover on Wednesday, 0-0, in an exciting overtime game. New goalie Sarah Evans had an outstanding day in net posting a shutout with 28 saves. Of note was the defensive play of backs, Jaclyn Porfilio and Cate Littlefield, and midfielders Katie Bean and Captain Caitlin Hickey who were stellar both in the defensive corners and in the backfield throughout the game. At the end of regulation with the game tied, the teams went into a 10 minute, 7 v 7, sudden victory overtime dominated by Milton breakaways and defensive shifting. With only minutes left in the game, Sarah Loucks dug the ball out of Milton's defensive circle and got it up to Suzanne Gallo, who dodged several Andover players to get the ball over into Milton's offensive end. Gallo found forward Micaela Conners open on the left side and Conners accelerated by an Andover defender to get the ball into the offensive circle to draw a corner. After a failed corner attempt, Milton managed to keep the ball in their offensive end in the last minutes of the game. Caitlin Hickey, who had seven total shots on net, almost scored in the last two minutes of the game with two breakaways and two strong shots on net. Andover's goalie came out of the net and made key saves to hold on to the shutout. Milton played well as a team and hopes to carry this intensity and determination with them when they face Thayer away on Saturday.
10/11 @ Thayer 1:00 L 1 - 0 OT
Milton field hockey traveled to Thayer this past Saturday and lost yet another close battle, 1-0 in overtime. The Mustangs had a slow start, but gained momentum near the end of the first half possessing the ball in the middle of the field and penetrating Thayer's defense with several hard shots on net. Milton continued to play a very skilled game creating scoring opportunities but could not get the ball passed the Thayer keeper. To add to Milton's frustration, a shot made by co-captain Caitlin Hickey outside of the striking circle which appeared to be tipped by freshman, Meghan Kelleher, sailed into the Thayer goal, but was called back as untouched by Milton attack within the circle. Co-captain, Emily Roberts had a hard push shot near the end of regulation that the Thayer goalie managed to keep clear of the goal. Defensively, the Mustangs were relentless and kept the Thayer attackers from getting clean shots on net. Caitlin Hickey’s powerful drive was particularly effective at moving the ball up the field and stopping Thayer's momentum. Milton ended regulation in a scoreless tie and headed into familiar territory in yet another sudden victory overtime. After an initial Milton breakaway, the Mustangs lost the ball to Thayer in their defensive end. A penalty resulted in a free hit and a goal from a shot taken from the top of the circle giving Thayer the win. Milton remains optimistic showing that they will not go down without a fight. The team looks forward to three games this week.
