Milton Academy (1-0) hosted Rivers (0-1) to open the 2008 varsity girls tennis season. The match was played indoors due to weather. Rivers competed hard and displayed great sportsmanship. Senior Captains Tori Aiello and Sarah Miller led Milton to our first win of the season. They played solid doubles, not dropping a game, and both went on to win their singles matches (Tori 6-1, 6-1 & Sarah 6-0, 6-1). Seniors Maddy Hobbs and Maggie Bouscaren won their doubles set, and continued on to win their singles matches (Maddy 6-2, 6-3 & Maggie 6-1, 6-2). Senior Ali Apfel and sophomore Micaela Conners lost just 3 games in their doubles debut. Ali won her singles match 6-0, 6-0. Freshman Sophie Panarese won her singles match 6-2, 6-1 and notched her very first win as a Mustang! It was an excellent effort by everyone. There were great points in both singles and doubles. Rivers had opportunities early in many of the sets. The girls handled the pressure well and did a great job holding them off. Their focus, as a team, was a key factor in not losing a set the entire match. Thanks to all the family and friends who came out to support the girls. Next up is St. George’s at home on Wednesday.
4/9St. George's 3:45 W 11 - 4
Milton Academy (2-0) hosted St. George’s (2-1) today in the first outdoor match of the season. St. George’s brought a talented team with plenty of depth on their roster. They fought tough on courts 1-6 and played solid doubles. They also displayed great sportsmanship. Senior Tori Aiello, senior Sarah Miller, and freshmen Sophie Panarese cruised through straight set wins at 1, 2 and 3 respectively. Tori and Sarah continued their outstanding doubles play for their second straight win of the season at first doubles. At 6-7 and down match point, seniors Maddy Hobbs and Ali Apfel came from behind to win their doubles set 9-7. Sophomore Micaela Conners and freshman Sophie Panarese had a great win at third doubles. The Mustangs picked up the last two sets with splits in 4 & 5 singles. Everyone fought tough. St. George’s played solid tennis from start to finish. The Milton girls did a great job of holing them off on the big points and fighting hard to grind out the wins. Thanks to all the family and friends who came out to support the girls. Our next match is at Brooks Academy on Saturday.

Milton Academy (3-0) traveled to Brooks School (0-2) Saturday to compete in our first away match of the season. The Brooks team was well coached and competed with terrific sportsmanship. It was a beautiful day in North Andover - for the singles matches. In true New England fashion, there were torrential downpours at the start of the doubles, which ultimately we were unable to play.

Senior Captain Tori Aiello won 1st singles 6-1, 6-0. Senior Captain Sarah Miller won 2nd singles 6-0, 6-0. Freshman Sophie Panarese won 3rd singles 6-1, 6-1. Senior Maddy Hobbs won 4th singles 6-1, 6-0. Senior Maggie Bouscaren won 5th singles 6-4, 6-1 after coming back from a break down in the first. And senior Megan Campos won her first match of the 08’ season in 6th singles 6-3, 6-2.

The team would like to thank the Aiello family for hosting a delicious team dinner Friday night. It was a wonderful opportunity for the team, coaches, and families to welcome in the 2008 girls tennis season! It was a terrific night. Thank you, again, to the Aiello’s.

Thanks to all the family and friends who drove to North Andover on Saturday to support the girls. Our next match is home against Middlesex on Wednesday.

Milton Academy (4-0) hosted Middlesex School (1-3) Wednesday in our fourth contest of the season. It was a perfect spring day for tennis! Middlesex brought a well coached team, and they fought hard. They displayed excellent sportsmanship.

Senior Captain’s Tori Aiello and Sarah Miller continued to play smart, solid singles and had key wins to pick up our first two points (Tori 6-0, 6-0 and Sarah 6-1, 6-0). Senior’s Maddy Hobbs and Ali Apfel both showed outstanding determination and great competitive spirit as they each battled back from being down in their second sets. After winning the first set 6-2, Maddy found herself down 4-5 and battled back to win the set 7-5. Ali showed incredible guts and focus, along with some great volley’s, as she came back (down 1-6, 1-5) to win the second set 7-5. Sophomore Miceala Conners played solid from the baseline and won her first singles match of the 08 season 6-1, 6-1. Freshman Sophie Panarese logged in her fourth consecutive straight set win (6-0, 6-0) to help the Mustangs clinch the match. The doubles play continued to improve with the Mustang’s loosing just three games total in the three doubles matches.

The Milton girls stayed focused and competed well. The doubles continue to improve as the girls work hard to take over the net and not give away any free points.

4/19 @ Hotchkiss 2:30 W 14 - 1
Milton Academy (5-0) traveled to Lakeville Connecticut to play The Hotchkiss School (4-2) Saturday in our first non-ISL match of the season. Despite a very long ride… it was a terrific day of tennis with outstanding singles and doubles matches played between the two teams. Hotchkiss was missing one of their top players but stepped it up and provided tough matches on all courts. Hotchkiss has a talented, deep roster. Their girls displayed excellent sportsmanship and they were gracious hosts. Tori Aiello, Sarah Miller, Sophie Panarese, Maddy Hobbs and Maggie Bouscaren all won in straight sets. Ali Apfel again showed her terrific fight and battled back to win the second set 6-0 after dropping the first set. We were fortunate to have the opportunity to play additional matches. Micaela Conners, Megan Campos, Suzanne Gallo and Emily Roberts all did an outstanding job competing against the talented squad from Hotchkiss. The doubles play was solid with the Mustangs taking all 3 pro-sets. In both the singles and doubles the Hotchkiss girls fought tough every point and kept the pressure on us from start to finish. Our girls did a good job stayed focused, playing one point at a time, and working hard to put the pressure right back on the Hotchkiss girls. The campus was truly beautiful. Especially the lake… in which the girls were able to cool off - post match - but jumping in uniforms and all! It made for a chilly ride home and lots of laughs!! Our next match is at Thayer Academy on Wednesday at 3:00. The Thayer team is off to a great start and, like Milton, remains undefeated. It should make for some excellent tennis Wednesday. Milton Academy (6-0) traveled to Braintree Wednesday on the first hot day of spring to take on a very talented and undefeated Thayer Academy team. The Thayer girls were well coached and showed outstanding sportsmanship. This fun rivalry brought out the best on both sides of the court. Senior captain’s Tori Aiello & Sarah Miller clinched the team match with a dominating win at first doubles (8-2). This was the final Thayer/Milton match for the duo after 7 years on the Milton Varsity team. A terrific ending to this rivalry for Tori and Sarah - no doubt! Tori did an outstanding job of bouncing back, playing great in doubles, after posting her first loss of the season in 1st singles (4-6, 0-6). Overall, Sarah Miller had an outstanding day winning 6-0, 6-0 at second singles. Freshman Sophie Panarese won in 3rd singles 6-0, 6-1. Senior Ali Apfel played fantastic and won a key match up in 4th singles 6-3, 6-2. Maddy Hobbs split sets in 5th singles after losing a well fought second set in a close tiebreak. Maggie Bouscaren dropped both her sets in 6th singles against an undefeated Thayer senior loosing 4-6, 1-6. In 2nd doubles Maddy Hobbs and Sophie Panarese battled back after being down 4-7 to tie it 7-7 but ultimately, Thayer hung on to win it 9-7. In 3rd doubles Ali Apfel and Maggie Bouscaren fought hard enough to earn a match point but ultimately fell to a tough team, loosing 9-7 in the tiebreak. It was an exciting day of tennis for everyone who participated and everyone who attended. The entire team prepared long and hard for this match. To come away with a win against such a talented Thayer team is a testament to their hard work, focus and dedication. This was a team win – all the way! The coaches are very proud of all 10 girls! We had an outstanding show of support from family, alumni, friends and coaches. It was terrific for the girls! Thank you to everyone who came out to cheer them on. Our next match is Saturday against Lawrence Academy at 1:00. We hope to see you there.

Milton Academy (7-0) traveled to Groton, MA to the beautiful campus of Lawrence Academy (0-6). The Lawrence girls played well and showed spirit and sportsmanship. Tori Aiello was back in her winning form at 1st singles with a solid 6-2, 6-0 win. Sarah Miller, in 2nd singles, and Sophie Panarese, in 3rd singles, both won 6-0, 6-0. They are both undefeated in singles play, each with 7 wins. Ali Apfel dropped her first set against LA in a tiebreak, but rebounded nicely to take the second set 6-3. Micaela Conners played solid in 5th singles winning 6-1, 6-0. Suzanne Gallo picked up her first girl’s varsity tennis win in 6th singles 6-0, 6-3. She did a terrific job of staying focused in the second set. The doubles matches were solid. Senior Captain’s Tori Aiello and Sarah Miller picked up their 5th straight win of the season. They remain undefeated in doubles and have dropped only 7 games total. In 2nd doubles Sophie Panarese and Megan Campos won 8-1. They both displayed some outstanding volleys and returns. Maggie Bouscaren and Emily Roberts played swift and smart, sealing the 14-1 victory for the Mustang’s by finishing 8-2. This marks Emily’s varsity tennis debut match, and win, as a Mustang. The girls did an excellent job of staying focused and sticking to their game plans. They continue play smart, patient tennis and did an excellent job of working the point, waiting for their opportunities. They also played aggressive in doubles, consistently working to take over the net. Another terrific effort by the girls! As always, thank you to the families and friends who came out to support the girls. Our next match is Wednesday at home against Phillips Exeter Academy. The Mustang’s hit the INDOOR courts at 4:00pm. Exeter (4-2) is a talented team with a deep roster. It should be excellent tennis! We hope to see you there.

Milton Academy (8-0) hosted Phillips Exeter (4-3) Wednesday at the indoor courts in the ACC. The Exeter team carries six strong players including 3 top ranked sisters. The Exeter girls came ready to play starting strong, playing tough from the first point on. They displayed terrific sportsmanship. Milton found itself down 1-2 after great doubles action. Senior Captain’s Tori Aeillo and Sarah Miller suffered their first loss of the season 6-8 after a terrific battle. Freshman Sophie Panarese and Senior Maddy Hobbs dropped their doubles set 6-8 but played well. Senior’s Ali Apfel and Maggie Bouscaren captured the lone doubles point 8-4. They both played outstanding. In singles action Tori Aiello split sets 6-3, 3-6. Sarah Miller won 6-3,7-6 continuing to display her ability to accurately adjust her game plan and find a way to win. Sophie Panarese (6-3, 6-1), Ali Apfel (6-1, 6-3) and Maggie Bourscaren (6-1, 6-1) all cruised in straight set wins. Maddy Hobbs showed incredible fight battling back from 2-6 in the first set to win 6-2 in the second. This was a long day filled with some terrific tennis. The girls did an excellent job of rebounding after the doubles and coming out strong. They kept the pressure on Exeter from the first point on. Overall, they did a sound job of limiting unforced errors and making their shots. Every match was exciting to watch. It was a long afternoon! Milton Academy (9-0) traveled to Byfield, MA to take on The Governors Academy (3-6) Saturday afternoon in the rain. Matches were played indoors on three courts and the format was switched to 6 singles pro-sets and 3 doubles pro-sets. The Governors girls were well coached and came out strong. There was terrific sportsmanship and great points, on both sides of the ball, in all 9 matches. Senior Captain’s Tori Aeillo and Sarah Miller both displayed outstanding shot-making and smarts as they captured the first two wins of the day 8-1 and 8-0. Freshman Sophie Panarese and Sophomore Micaela Conners quickly followed it up with a pair of 8-1 pro-sets. Senior Megan Campos played tough, logging in an 8-5 win at 5th singles. Emily Roberts dropped a hard fought set 2-8, but played solid in her first singles outing of the year. Senior’s Ali Apfel and Maggie Bouscaren followed up their terrific win on Wednesday with another strong win 8-1 in 1st doubles. Senior Maddy Hobbs partnered with Micaela Conners at 2nd doubles and won 8-3. They worked hard and came up big taking over the net. Megan Campos and Junior Suzanne Gallo were both solid from the ground and aggressive at net, winning 8-5 in 3rd doubles. Overall, the Mustang’s played smart, solid tennis. Thank you to the many families who came to Governor’s to support the girls. Our next match is Wednesday, 3:15 at Phillips Andover Academy (7-0). Andover is undefeated in the ’08 season. This should truly be an outstanding day of tennis! We hope to see you there.

Milton Academy (10-0) traveled to Andover, MA to the beautiful campus of Phillips Academy (7-1) to take on an undefeated PA. The weather was picture perfect and it was truly a great day of tennis. We played the ISL format, with two additional singles and one doubles match played. We played doubles first and played out the ad’s. The PA team is deep and the girls came out strong. There was terrific sportsmanship and great points in all 14 matches. Senior Captain’s Tori Aeillo and Sarah Miller lost a hard fought match 2-8 in 1st doubles. Seniors Maggie Bouscaren and Ali Apfel again played outstanding doubles converting on the 6th match point to capture the first team point of the day winning 8-5. Freshman Sophie Panarese and Senior Maddy Hobbs quickly followed it up with a solid 8-5 win grabbing the tiebreaking doubles point to send the Mustaing’s into singles play up 2-1. Tori, Sara and Sophie captured the six additional points with solid straight set wins in 1, 2 and 3. They displayed some of their finest matches of the season against the very strong PA 1, 2 & 3. While Sarah and Sophie were up the entire match, Tori did an amazing job of battling back from a break down in both sets. She made great adjustments and her execution got sharper with every point. Ali, Maddy, and Maggie all fought as tough as they have all season but came up just short the wins against the strongest 4, 5, and 6 girls we’ve seen this year. It was great tennis and it was impressive to see our girls stay focused, positive and tough. In all three of those matches each one of them truly fought for every single last point. It was great to see such competitive spirit. Senior Megan Campos, Sophomore Micaela Conners, and Junior’s Emily Roberts and Suzanne Gallo all had tough matches, in the end falling just short. Again, they all displayed outstanding grit and determination and we were all fortunate enough to watch some terrific points. This was an exciting win for the team – no doubt. The coaches are incredibly proud of all 10 girls. We are all so appreciative of the amazing support from our friends and family. Thank you!! Our next match is Saturday, 1:00 at home against St. Mark’s (5-6). We hope to see you there.

Milton Academy (11-0) hosted St. Mark’s (5-7) on Saturday afternoon. Despite the forecast, the weather turned out perfect for tennis. St. Mark’s has had one of their best seasons in years. They come ready to play and displayed terrific sportsmanship. The Mustang’s were ready for the challenge and came out strong. Senior Captain Sarah Miller, Sophomore Sophie Panarese, Senior’s Ali Apfel and Maggie Bouscaren, Sophomore Micaela Conners and Junior Emily Roberts all had straight set wins in singles. Sarah & Sophie cruised along in their matches and remain undefeated in singles play this season. Emily showed incredible patience and determination closing out a tight second set, notching her first singles victory as a Mustang. Ali and Maggie did a great job of holding off their opponent’s and controlling momentum shifts within each of their matches. Micaela was solid from the ground and did an outstanding job of dictating the points. In doubles action, Sarah teamed up with Junior Suzanne Gallo for a solid win in #1. Suzanne handled her first outing at #1 like a veteran, serving and returning well and taking over the net. Sophie and Micaela teamed up in two playing solid tennis and dropping only 2 games total. In three, Ali and Senior Megan Campos had great points against a strong team. They just fell short of the win. They both showed outstanding net play. Thank you to the family and friends in who showed up to support the team. Our next match is Wednesday, 3:30 at St. Paul’s (6-4). We hope to see you there.

Milton Academy (12-0) traveled to the beautiful campus of St. Paul’s on Wednesday afternoon. The St. Paul’s team was well coached and they have enjoyed a winning season this year. There were great matches and terrific sportsmanship on all courts. In singles, the Mustangs were solid off the ground, smart and focused. Senior Captain Tori Aiello, Sophomore Sophie Panarese, Senior Maddy Hobbs, Sophomore Micaela Conners and Junior Suzanne Gallo all had straight set wins in singles. Senior Ali Apfel cruised in the first set but found herself down 2–5, 30-30, in the second. Ali’s put herself in great position for another come-from-behind win when she tied it 5-5, but fell just short after her opponent played the best two games of the match. In doubles action Tori and Maddy started out slow but did a great job turning it around and played tough to close out a tight set in 1st. Ali and Sophie (the lefty duo) cruised, dropping only 2 games in 2nd. Maggie and Junior Emily Roberts seemed to gain momentum with each point as they completed the doubles sweep with a solid win in 3rd. Thank you to the parents who came up to Concord, NH and supported the team. Our next match is Saturday at home against BB&N. The match starts at 1:00. FAMIILY MEMBERS….BRING YOUR RACQUET!! The girls and coaches invite the families to stay for some after match fun with our first annual “family hit around.” Come play with the team and the coaches immediately following the match! Milton Academy (13-0) hosted BB&N Saturday afternoon. It was a beautiful afternoon for tennis. BB&N brought a talented team and competed hard despite being down their two top players. There was terrific sportsmanship on all courts. In singles, the Mustangs continued to play smart and solid off the ground. Senior Captain’s Tori Aiello and Sarah Miller, Sophomore Sophie Panarese, Senior’s Ali Apfel, Maddy Hobbs, and Maggie Bouscaren all cruised in convincing singles wins dropping only 8 games total in the 12 sets. This marks Sarah’s 5th and Sophie’s 4th 6-0, 6-0 wins of the season. In Doubles, Maggie and Junior Emily Roberts took the set at 1st, Maddy and Sophomore Micaela Conners dropped only one game in 2nd, and Senior Megan Campos teamed with Junior Suzanne Gallo in 3rd to complete the 15-0 sweep. The girls continue to do an outstanding job of closing and focusing one point at a time. Micaela and Suzanne remain undefeated in singles and doubles action this season. A very special thank you to the faculty, parents and family who participated in our first annual “family hit around.” It was a terrific team/family effort and the courts were full until the last hamburger was served! There were great matches on all courts. We had mother/daughter team’s, fathers against daughters, girls against coaches, siblings against parents, faculty against coaches, parents playing singles against the girls… you name it! The weather was perfect, the food was delicious and the day was so much fun. The coaches truly appreciate everything everyone did to make the day possible. Special thanks to Mr. Feldman for being the grill master and cooking up the food!! The home stretch is upon us. We battle a very tough Groton team (who’s only ISL loss this year came in a close battle with Thayer, and have won their last 7 matches) on Wednesday at home at 3:30, Nobles Day on Friday at 4:30, and Milton once again hosts the New England’s this Saturday rain or shine. Milton Academy (14-0) hosted Groton (8-2) Wednesday afternoon. Groton is well coached with a deep roster. There were great points and sportsmanship on all courts. In singles action Senior Captain Sarah Miller, Froshie Sophie Panarese, Seniors Maddy Hobbs, Maggie Bouscaren and Megan Campos all won in straight sets. Megan came back, down 4-5 in the first, to win 7-5, 6-3 in her very last outing as a Mustang. Senior Captain Tori Aiello battled tough in the first set against Groton’s very solid #1, but came up just short to loose the set. She went on to take the next set convincingly, 6-0. In 1st doubles, Tori and Sarah played from behind the entire set, making a move at 6-7, and ultimately winning the set in an exciting tiebreak. In 2nd, Ali and Maggie did an outstanding job of taking over the net and won 8-5. In 3rd doubles Maddy and Sophie cruised with an 8-2 victory. Thanks to all the friends and family who cheered the girls on to victory. Next up, our last match of the season! We wrap up with Nobles on Friday at 4:30. Nobles (8-6) has enjoyed a solid season. It looks to be a great day of tennis. The match is scheduled for the outdoor courts. We hope to see you there!

Milton Academy (15-0) hosted Nobles (8-7) Friday afternoon. Nobles is well coached and came out ready to play. There were great points and incredible sportsmanship on all courts. In singles action Senior Captain’s Tori Aiello and Sarah Miller came out strong in their last match as Mustang’s after 6years on Varsity Tennis. Tori won 6-0, 6-1 and Sarah won 6-2, 7-6 after an amazing battle for the second set. It caps off 6 solid years of tennis success for the duo. Tori heads off to Middlebury College in the fall, where she is sure to make an immediate impact in the tennis program. Sarah heads off to Wesleyan University where she too will make an immediate contribution to the tennis team. We wish them both the very best! Also winning in their final Mustang match were Ali Apfel (6-3, 6-1), Maddy Hobbs (6-2, 7-5) and Maggie Bouscaren (6-1, 6-1). Sophomore Micaela Conners completed the singles sweep winning 6-0, 6-1. In Doubles, Sarah and Tori won in 1st 8-0, Maddy and Freshman Sophie Panarese won in 2nd 8-5, and Ali and Maggie won in 3rd 8-2. Thanks to all the friends and family who cheered the girls on to victory. A special thank you to Mr. Roberts who has been our “team photographer” all season. Nobles day is a wonderful tradition. It was a fitting and fun way to end an amazing season. The girls worked incredibly hard to string together an undefeated season and an ISL Title. We sincerely congratulate all 10 girls on their success. What a year!
