In addition, students must read a secondary text. Choose either ONE text from the first list below, or choose TWO shorter texts from the second list.

Pick One Text:
Wuthering Heights, Bronte
Jane Eyre, Bronte
Robinson Crusoe, Defoe
Oliver Twist, Dickens
Great Expectations, Dickens
Old Man and the Sea, Hemingway
A Separate Peace, Knowles
The Call of the Wild, London
1984, Orwell
The Catcher in the Rye, Salinger
Treasure Island, Stevenson

OR

Pick Two Texts:
The Pearl, Steinbeck
Of Mice and Men, Steinbeck
The Red Pony, Steinbeck

Students should be prepared to answer the following questions about their secondary book(s) on the first day of school: Why is this text a classic, and should it be considered a classic?
