The Nesto Gallery's first show of the year, Buckminster Fuller/Shaoji Sadao Partners in Design opens Friday night, Sept. 14 from 6:00-8:00 PM. The show commemorates one of Milton's most famous graduates, R. Buckminster Fuller, Class of 1913. "Bucky" as he was known to his close friends, spent his life as a designer, philosopher and visionary. Most readily identified as the inventor of the geodesic dome, he held over 200 patents, wrote many books, invented a new branch of mathematics, and lectured around the world. Fuller grew up in the town of Milton near Turner's Pond, was quarterback of the football team, and was devoted to the Academy, at which he spoke twice before his death in the 1980's. He was an important man who believed passionately that the world's problems could be solved by "design" - the only choice for the humane operation of "Spaceship Earth."
