Jackson Katz, who directs the US Marines Corps Gender Violence Prevention Program, the first system-wide gender violence prevention program in the history of the Marines, will speak to Milton students on February 27, 2001 as part of the Samuel S. Talbot II '65 Memorial Fund speaker series.

Mr. Katz is the founder and director of MVP strategies, an organization that provides gender violence prevention training and materials to community organizations, colleges, high schools, law enforcement agencies and community organizations, An all-state high school football player, Jackson Katz became the first male at the University of Massachusetts-Amherst to earn a minor in Women's Studies; he also holds a master's degree from Harvard University. Mr. Katz is co-creator of the video, Tough Guise: Media Images and the Crisis in Masculinity, and he has been one of America's leading anti-sexist male activists for almost two decades

Established in 1993, the Samuel S. Talbot II '65 Memorial Fund for Counseling and Community Issues supports Milton's efforts to teach the community about affective behavioral issues. Past Talbot speakers included Dr. Jean Kilbourne, author of Deadly Persuasion, Joan Jacobs Brumberg, author of the Body Project: An Intimate History of American Girls and Olivia Hoblitzelle '55 a meditation teacher and former associate director of the Mind/Body Clinic at the Deaconess Hospital.
