Emily Russell-Roy (I) and Johanna Smith (I) were recently awarded
The 2002 Howard Nemerov Poetry Prize by Washington University in
St. Louis. Emily won for her poem, "Ophelia," and Johanna
won for her poem entitled "Affair."
The Howard Nemerov creative writing competition is open to high
school juniors and seniors. Three prizes of $250 are awarded both
in fiction and in poetry. Members of Washington University's faculty
of writers, including prose writers Marshall Klimasewiski, Kellie
Wells and Charles Newman, and poets Mary Jo Bang and Carl Phillips
judged the competition.
