Music Faculty Member Commissioned to Write Three New Anthems for Local Religious Communities |
|
November 2004
|
Composer and Milton faculty member Louise Mundinger has been selected
for the American Composers Forum New England’s 2004-2005 Faith
Partners Program. Selected from among 23 composers, she will serve
as the composer in residence at the New Covenant Christian Church
in Mattapan, Massachusetts, and Temple Ohabei Shalom in Brookline,
Massachusetts.
Louise will work with both communities throughout
the year and write three new anthems to be performed by the choirs
of both congregations in March 2005.
This community outreach project aims to reinvigorate
sacred music and reintroduce composers into religious settings where
they have historically flourished. In this collaboration between
one Jewish congregation and one predominantly African-American Christian
congregation, the two music directors jointly chose Louise as this
year’s resident composer to collaborate with the music directors
and choirs to select appropriate text and musical settings for the
ensembles’ strengths.
Louise will also participate in congregational
activities such as study groups, social and religious activities,
and will deliver talks about the creative process and what it means
to be a composer.
