Emmy Award-winning cameraman, director and cinematographer Tom Curran
’81 will visit with students this week as a Melissa Dilworth
Gold ’61 Visiting Artist—the third visiting artist this
year in a series presented by the visual arts department.
Tom will present to students enrolled in art, photography, and moving
image courses during assembly on Wednesday, May 19. On Thursday
and Friday, May 20 and 21, Tom will work with individual arts and
creative writing classes. Students will also have the opportunity
to meet one-on-one with Tom on Thursday afternoon.
The Melissa Dilworth ’61 Gold Visiting Artist Fund commemorates
Melissa's life and interests by bringing nationally recognized artists
to campus each year so that students may benefit from dynamic interaction
with a inspirational and accomplished professionals. The Fund includes
sharing an artist's time with public school students. Tom Curran
will visit with Braintree High School students on Friday.
At the 2000 New England Film and Video Festival Tom won Best Cinematography
honors for his work as director of photography on the documentary
Iditarod: a far distant place. In 2002, Tom made his directing
debut with ADRIFT which won Best Documentary at the Cincinnati
and Anchorage Film Festivals, and awards at The Miami, USA, and
Woods Hole Film Festivals. Tom also photographed programs for the
PBS series, I'll Make Me A World and The Human Race,
ABC's Wide World Of Sports,The Discovery Channel's Discover
Magazine, The History Channel’s Tactical To Practical
and Scientific American Frontiers.
