Milton Academy Theatre Presents The Sins of Sor Juana

February 2005

Milton Academy students perform Karen Zacarias' The Sins of Sor Juana in Ruth King Theatre from February 10-12.

Sor Juana Ines de la Cruz was born the illegitimate daughter of an Indian woman in Mexico during the early 17th C. Her scholarship and especially her brilliant poetry brought her to the attention of the Viceroy, and at the age of sixteen she was a celebrated literary figure, holding salons and residing at the palace. Today she is known as one of the great poets of the Spanish language. Click here to read My Divine Lysis by Sor Juana Ines de la Cruz in both Spanish and English.

The Sins of Sor Juana is a dramatic speculation upon this passionate poet's move from the Viceroy's court to a nunnery from which she never emerged. The play blends comedy, romance, tragedy and the triumph of the human spirit in a tribute to a magnificent woman whose poetry sings with the life of the body, the mind and the soul.

Thursday and Friday performances begin at 7:30 p.m. and Saturday's show will start at 7 p.m. For ticket information, please contact David Peck at (617) 898-2129.
