John
Warren Appointed as Head of School at St. Mark's School |
| November 2005 |
John
Warren, Milton Academy faculty member for 24 years, has been selected
as the fifteenth head of school at St. Mark's School, in Southborough,
Massachusetts, effective July 1, 2006. John’s roles at Milton
have prepared him fully for the leadership of a school; in addition
John is a graduate of St. Mark's (1974), and has been a trustee
at St. Mark’s since 1995.
After two years of teaching at the Robert Louis Stevenson School
in Pebble Beach, California, John joined the Milton faculty in 1981.
He has taught history, coached baseball and served as a house head
in Robbins House along with his wife, Laura. From 1992–1995,
John chaired the history and social sciences department while earning
a Ph.D. at the Harvard Graduate School of Education.
In 1995 John became academic dean at Milton. In that role, he articulated
academic policies and procedures in this academically-centered school.
Most recently he has served Milton as the special assistant to the
head of school. For the past two years, he has also chaired the
executive committee of the advisory board to The Mountain School
Program of Milton Academy.
John’s current project is a reconsideration of Milton’s
academic schedule, and over his time at Milton John has undertaken
numerous smaller planning efforts that have identified strategic
issues for the Academy and its future.
“John is a valued colleague and thoughtful friend,”
Head of School Robin Robertson says. “He has a passion for
life long learning, fly fishing, and — not the least of all
— for the Red Sox.”
“John has served Milton long and well. We will miss him and
Laura, his wife and Milton faculty member and house head as well.
We wish both John and Laura well as they take on the challenges
and opportunities St. Mark's will provide. “
