A Weekend of Concerts |

The
music department at Milton Academy presented the 2006 Spring Concerts
in King Theatre on Friday, April 28 and Sunday, April 30.
Friday's concert featured the Milton Academy Glee Club and Chamber
Singers. The chamber singers performed music of Monteverdi, Haydn
and four movements of the Antonio Vivaldi, "Gloria." The
glee club sang music of Hampton, Bernstein, Strouse and Carissimi.
Members of the drum circle and the Grade 6 chorus joined the glee
club on stage to perform the Caldwell/Ivory selection, "Hope
for Resolution." The student vocalists performed under the
direction of faculty members Edward Whalen and Louise Mundinger.
Sunday's concert (the 19th annual Jean McCawley concert) featured
the Milton Academy Orchestra and Chamber Orchestra. With Alice Tin
(Class I) as violin soloist, the chamber orchestra opened with the
Zigeunerweisen of Pablo de Sarasate. The chamber orchestra also
performed the opening movement of the Beethoven First Piano Concerto
with Simin Lee (Class I) as soloist. Following intermission, the
orchestra opened with the finale from the Mozart Concerto for Two
Pianos. The internationally-known pianist, Claude Frank, honored
us by playing as one of the soloists with his grandnephew, Eli Schwartz
(Class I). The orchestra continued with music of Vaughan Williams,
Saint-Georges, Tchaikovsky and Tilzer. The orchestra and chamber
orchestra were directed by music department chair, Don Dregalla.
