Playwright David Lindsay-Abaire ’88 Nominated for a Tony Award |
| May 2006 |
Milton
graduate and renowned playwright, David Lindsay-Abaire, has been
nominated for a Tony Award for his recent Broadway hit, Rabbit
Hole, starring Tyne Daly and Cynthia Nixon. The show was one
of four nominated in the Best Play category for the 60th Annual
Tony Awards.
In reaction to his nomination, as posted on Broadway.com,
David has said, “I'm thrilled and flattered to be among the
other nominated plays. It was a really competitive year; it could
have gone either way. I feel lucky to have made the cut. It's pretty
good…especially for a little play that closed a few months
ago. I'm so happy for Cynthia [Nixon] and Tyne [Daly], especially.
Of course, you want all your actors to get nominations, but I'm
thrilled for Tyne and Cynthia and [director] Dan Sullivan. It was
such a huge deal for me just to get to Broadway in the first place,
honestly, so this is already a huge victory for me. This is just
supreme. I've cleared the calendar [for the ceremony on June 11],
but not a spot on my mantel, sadly. I'm happy I can go in and enjoy
the show and not be worried."
Rabbit Hole—which marked David’s Broadway debut—was
billed as “a bittersweet drama about finding hope in the lowest
moments of our lives, and the paths we take to return to the light
of day.” The play is David’s fourth work produced by
Manhattan Theatre Club which also produced his earlier plays Fuddy
Meers, Wonder of the World and Kimberly Akimbo.
