Parents' Day, Classes V-VI

We are finishing our second week here at the Middle School. How quickly summer seems to fade when there is so much activity here on campus. Students are learning their schedules and becoming more comfortable with the daily routines. The classrooms are buzzing with excitement and energy as the teachers lead the students in daily activities. If you have not heard from your child’s advisor yet, you will very soon. He or she will be checking in with you about how the beginning of school is going for your son or daughter.

Looking ahead to October, two upcoming events are important. The first student Social will occur on Friday, October 3rd at the top of Ware from 7:00 to 10:00 P.M. The newly-elected student government representatives are busy planning the event with the help of Lenna Dower, Middle School Dean of Students. It should certainly be fun so please encourage your son or daughter to attend. Students are welcome to stay after athletic practice as long as they report to Ware by 6 P.M. For five dollars, we will order pizzas and sodas for those students who are staying after athletics for the social. On Thursday, October 2 and Friday, October 3, we will post a sign-up sheet in the announcement board at the top of Ware, for those who want pizza and sodas.
We are eager to welcome you to School for Parents’ Day on Friday, October 17. Head of School, Robin Robertson, and I will address parents during the assembly at 8:00 A.M. in Kellner Performing Arts Center. The enclosed schedule outlines the events of the day for you. As many of you know, we invite you to “shadow” your child for the day. We will have a luncheon for students, parents, teachers, and advisors starting at noon with refreshments throughout the day. Please note we have amended our usual Friday schedule to include all class periods, thus pushing back the start of soccer and football games until 4 PM. Parents and Class VI students will attend classes while Class V students will have a class meeting during eighth period.
It is important to see your child’s advisor sometime on Parents’ Day, as the advisor will have an initial set of comments on your child’s progress so far this semester. Please call the office at (617) 898-2551, sometime before October 17 to make an appointment for a meeting with your child’s advisor.

Since time is limited, and meeting parents of advisees is a priority, individual meetings with all of your child’s teachers will not be possible on Parents’ Day. If you have specific concerns about your son’s or daughter’s progress in a particular course, you may try to set up a meeting with that teacher directly.

We look forward to seeing you soon.

Sincerely,
Mark Stanek
Middle School Principal
