Class III parents,
mark your calendars:
Information sessions for off-campus programs
The Class II year offers students opportunities to participate
in one of several off-campus programs: The Mountain School
Program of Milton Academy, CityTerm at the Masters School,
and The Maine Coast Semester of the Chewonki Foundation.
Milton will host information sessions in January for Class
III students and parents about these semester-long programs.
Each session will take place in Greeley Auditorium, (lower-level
of the Science Building) and will include a slide show and
question and answer period. Brochures and material will be
available at each session, or at any time, from John Warren,
special assistant to the head of school.
Wednesday, January 8: The Mountain School Program
of Milton Academy (9:15 AM and again at 6:45 PM)
The Mountain School (TMS) is a rigorous interdisciplinary
program centered on issues of community and the environment
on a working 300-acre farm in Vershire, Vermont. Class II
students (juniors) who attend, spend the fall or spring with
students from other sending schools. The Mountain School is
a Milton Academy program, which also draws students from other
independent schools. The academic curriculum coincides with
many courses offered at Milton. Interested Class III students
need to submit an application, for either 2003-2004 semester,
to the Deans’ Office by Friday, February 14, 2003.
Monday, January 13: CityTerm at the Masters School
(6:45 PM)
CITYTerm at the Masters School in Dobbs Ferry, New York is
a semester-long program for Class II students (juniors) providing
an interdisciplinary learning experience and using New York
City as a classroom laboratory. CityTerm’s curriculum
allows students to meet many of Milton’s course requirements.
Milton Academy has no official relationship with CityTerm,
but Milton does give graduation credit for CityTerm courses.
Interested Class III students need to submit an application,
for either 2003-2004 semester, to the Deans’ Office
by Friday, February 14, 2003.
Tuesday, January 14: The Maine Coast Semester of the
Chewonki Foundation (6:45 PM)
Maine Coast Semester (MCS) at Chewonki offers a curriculum
focused on marine biology. The semester-long program enrolls
Class II students. The principles of community living are
comparable to those that inform TMS. The academic curriculum
offered by Chewonki coincides with many of the courses offered
at Milton Academy. Milton Academy has no official relationship
with Chewonki, but Milton does give graduation credit for
Chewonki courses. Interested Class III students need to submit
an application, for either 2003-2004 semester, to the Deans’
Office by Friday, February 14, 2003.
