Off-campus Study Programs:

The Mountain School Program of Milton Academy
CityTerm at the Masters School
The Maine Coast Semester of the Chewonki Foundation

In order to stimulate thinking about possibilities for Class III students for the 2003-2004 academic year, the Academy will host information sessions about off-campus programs in January at the following times:

Thursday, January 8: The Mountain School Program of Milton Academy (3:00 PM) (Required for all Class III students)
Monday, January 12: CityTerm at the Masters School (6:45 PM)
Tuesday, January 13: The Maine Coast Semester of the Chewonki Foundation (6:45 PM)

All of the presentations will take place in Greeley Auditorium, in the basement of the Science Building, and will include a slide show and an opportunity for questions. Parents are most welcome to attend.

The Mountain School provides a one-semester opportunity for Class II students to continue their academic program while living on a working farm in Vershire, Vermont. The social experience of a closely knit boarding community, combined with the school's spectacular setting and superb faculty, ensure an extraordinary experience for all who attend. The Mountain School is a Milton Academy program which draws students from the Academy as well as from a number of other independent schools. The academic curriculum offered coincides with many of the courses offered at Milton. Typically, between eight and ten Milton Academy students are selected by the Mountain School to participate in the program. Interested Class III students need to submit an application, for either 2004-2005 semester, to the Deans’ Office by Monday, February 9, 2004.

From its residential base in Dobbs Ferry, a forty-minute train ride north of Grand Central Station, CityTerm uses New York City as its classroom and laboratory. CityTerm’s curriculum allows students to meet many of Milton’s course requirements while at the same time providing a unique interdisciplinary learning experience which takes advantage of the setting of the school. Milton Academy gives graduation credit for CityTerm courses. Interested Class III students need to submit an application, for either 2004-2005 semester, to the Deans’ Office by Monday, February 9, 2004.

The Maine Coast Semester, “Chewonki” is a one-semester opportunity for Class II students to continue their academic program while living on a 400-acre peninsula on the Maine coast. The campus, surrounded by a tidal estuary, provides a beautiful setting of pasture and pine forest in which to explore the relationship between people and the environment. Milton Academy gives graduation credit for Chewonki courses. The academic curriculum offered by Chewonki coincides with many of the courses offered at Milton Academy. Interested Class III students need to submit an application, for either 2004-2005 semester, to the Deans’ Office by Monday, February 9, 2004.

Brochures will be available at each information session. Anyone interested in learning more about these programs can also pick up materials from John Warren, Special Assistant to the Head of School, at his office in Wigg Hall.
