The Parents Association - new ways to be part of Milton this year.
Come join us!

The Milton Parents' Association extends its warmest welcome to new and returning parents and students. The co-presidents (Gail von Metzsch, boarding and Pamela Thorpe, day) and the co-vice presidents (Rosemary Doorly, boarding and Judy Tucker, day) have been working together this summer to develop the program for 2002-03.

Our planning goal for this year was to enhance the spirit of community already present at Milton by creating some new events. The first new initiative happens at the start of the Transition Program, from 10 a.m. to noon on August 25. Members of the Parents' Association will be on hand at tables in front of Robbins House (girls' dorm) and Wolcott House (boys' dorm)to welcome parents and students to School. Please stop by for a chat and a cold drink.

As school reopens we will host a Parents' Association information table in the Athletic and Convocation Center (ACC) where registration occurs. More importantly, inside the Robert Saltonstall Gymnasium where books are sold, parents from the Parents' Association will provide a Cozy Corner where you can take a break, have a cold drink and a snack, and chat with a parent who's "been there." Visit us on Wednesday, September 4, 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and Thursday, September 5 from 8:30 a.m. to 10:15 a.m.

We hope you'll enjoy another of our new ideas during Parents' Weekend end for Classes I-IV, October 18-19. The Parents' Association is sponsoring pizza parties for each of the Classes, I-IV, from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. During this time parents can meet their children's friends and other parents informally. From 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. we invite the School community (parents, students, faculty and staff) to hear guest speaker, Loretta LaRouche, international stress management consultant and "comedian therapist," as some reviews have titled her. Ms. LaRouche will speak in the King Theatre, and help us all laugh away any opening-day tension. Then join us for dessert that will follow immediately.

The Parents' Association Cookbook, a great, diverse collection of tasty cuisine collected and published by a devoted Cookbook Committee will be on sale starting at Parents' Weekend. You won't be disappointed.

Still in the planning stages is an all-school event, (grades K-12), called the Health Fair and 5K Fun/Run Walk. One of the ideas is that this event would be raise funds to add to the "cozy factor" in the Milton Academy Health Center, providing a home-like atmosphere for our children who are sick.

We welcome your participation and help. We are seeking volunteers to help plan Faculty and Staff Appreciation and the Athletic Teas, or to serve as a representative of a class on the association. Perhaps you'd like to help plan the Milton Mixup, our annual parent dinner held at Milton parents' homes. We encourage parents of boarding students as well as day students to join in our efforts. Many hands make less work, and you will also have plenty of fun.

Contact us in several easy ways: Our email address is ParentsAssociation_US@milton.edu, and our voicemail line at Milton is 617-898-2599 (we'll return the messages). You can use U.S. mail to contact us at Milton or if you are on campus, use our mailbox in the Faculty Room. You are also welcome to call us at home; the officers are listed in the Parents' Association section of the Milton Web site, as well as in the School directory.

Remember, to learn about, or confirm, or to find out about any event changes on campus, use the calendar on www.milton.edu Click on specific calendar days or select "Parent Assoc." from the calendar search options (lower left side of calendar pages). In addition, find Parents' Association events in the parents' section of the site.

We look forward to a great year and enthusiastic participation from our fellow Milton parents.

Sincerely,
Gail von Metzsch, Co-president
Pamela Thorpe, Co-president
