New
Morning Drop-Off Routes
Construction that will soon yield
us a new student-faculty center and a renovated Warren Hall
has changed the face of campus this summer. In fact, we have,
of necessity, developed new plans for morning student drop-off
aimed at safety for students and avoiding a Centre Street
bottleneck, a situation very familiar to veteran parents.
The drop-off area in front of Warren Hall is now gone. The
traffic plans we outline below provide five dispersed drop-off
locations that are both safe for students and more efficient
for drivers. Please study the options, and the accompanying
map, and choose the route that is most convenient for you.
We ask your help and cooperation with these important changes
as we all look forward to the new facilities Milton students
and parents will soon enjoy. Signage on campus will help you
locate your chosen route, as will Milton Academy safety personnel,
during the 7:30 to 8:15 rush period.
The five drop-off options:
1. The Pool Lot: Enter
the pool lot off Randolph Avenue just south of the lights
at Randolph and Centre. Drop the student off inside the lot
at the pathway leading to School buildings. When you exit
the pool lot, you can turn left or right. This is the best
drop-off point for those who typically travel heading north
along Randolph Avenue
2. The Facilities Loop:
Enter the facilities loop from Randolph Avenue, the first
driveway on the right as you travel south from Brook Road
toward Centre Street. You will be behind the facilities building.
Follow the driveway around in a left turn loop to the front
of the facilities and drop students off by the Academy van
parking area, where a pathway leads to School buildings. This
is the best drop-off point for those traveling from the north
or for people who wish to travel south on Randolph Avenue.
Please note: The facilities loop is also the best drop-off
point for those traveling from the east. From the east, rather
than heading to the Academy on Centre Street, stay on Brook
Road. Take a left onto Randolph Avenue and the first right
into the facilities loop. Then follow directions above.
3. The Upton Loop: Enter
the Upton loop by turning from Centre St. into the driveway
next to Upton field, at the western limit of campus. Follow
the driveway around Upton House, and drop Upper School students
in the parking lot by the interim math classrooms. This is
the best drop-off point for whose traveling from the west,
who want to return to the west after leaving students.
Note: Lower School parents who use this route should drop
their children in front of the Junior Building. Lower School
parents who need to leave the car and bring children into
the Junior Building should park in the Junior Building lot
to the right of the building. Please do not block the flow
of traffic by leaving your car in front of the building.
4. The ACC Loop: Enter
by turning onto Chapel Drive. Drop students in front of Robert
Saltonstall Gymnasium (RSG) and proceed down toward the Athletic
Center. Turn right behind RSG and follow the road by the tennis
courts and out through the facilities area. Academy Road,
which runs in front of RSG and the dormitories, is not an
option for exiting campus, since it is now a construction
entrance. This drop-off is an option for those traveling from
the east or west on Centre Street.
5. Ware Hall Loop: Enter
the Ware Hall loop from Centre Street into the driveway that
begins at Cox Library. Drop students at the crosswalk in the
center of the loop. When you leave the loop unlike
the case in other years you may only turn right, for
safety. Therefore, this drop-off is practical for those who
would normally continue east after leaving students. No parking
is allowed in the loop during the morning rush. The School
buses use this drop-off, and they unload at the crosswalk.
These options are noted on the traffic map and signage during
the first few days of school will designate the drop-offs.
With your cooperation and thoughtful consideration of which
option is best for you, we should be able to decrease traffic
tie-up in the morning and, most importantly, assure a safe
start of the school day for your child.
