Boarding Advisory Group Plans
for New Dormitories

The addition of two new dormitories on campus this fall will
allow Milton—in keeping with the School's historical
tradition—to bring the number of day students and boarding
students to parity. While the School will not change in its
overall size, Milton’s boarding program will grow by
80—70 students and 10 faculty members over the next
two years.
To prepare for the growth the boarding community will experience,
the School formed a Boarding Advisory Group. Made up of administrators,
house faculty and students, the advisory group is charged
with planning for the smooth integration new students and
faculty into larger boarding community——and helping
the departments responsible for those areas develop plans
to meet the needs of a larger population. [More]

From
the Middle School Principal:
Middle School: Exciting Developments for Next Year
For
the last eight months, faculty who teach in the Middle School
have been re-examining the programs for Grades 7 and 8. Based
on the latest research about early adolescence, brain development
and middle schools, and surveying parents, teachers, and students,
we have outlined the elements of a rigorous program that is
developmentally appropriate. The Middle School will continue
to fulfill Milton’s mission to pursue excellence and
develop creative and critical thinkers while working collaboratively
to embrace diversity and to challenge students to pursue their
passions.
We are excited to share our new Common Purpose, to point out
the continuing traditions, and to explain the upcoming enhancements
to the Middle School. In addition to reading about these developments
(below), we would welcome current seventh grade parents to
join us for coffee and desert on Wednesday, April 28 at 7:00
p.m. in Straus when we will detail the changes. [More]

Discovering Community at Milton Academy
Ingrid Frank P'05
It all started when I went looking for a way to become "more
involved" at Milton. Ever since my son went off to elementary
school, I have always tried to support his education by volunteering,
and this was what I had in mind. Last year, as the parent
of a (new to Milton) Class III grade day student I wasn't
feeling particularly connected. I asked around and found out
that the Parents' Association was just the vehicle for my
involvement. [More]
From the Parents'
Association
Small bursts of purple, yellow and white are beginning
to dot the New England landscape, sure signs that spring is
arriving. It also means the end to another great year at Milton
is around the corner. The final meeting of the Milton Academy
Parents’ Association is Wednesday, May 12, at 6:45 in
Straus Library. Head of School Robin Robertson will be our
guest speaker and it will be an opportunity to recap the year,
thank the parent volunteers who made all our events possible
and to introduce the new board and committee chairs for 2004-2005.
Perhaps for some of you, it will present the opportunity to
speak to participating volunteers and consider joining one
of our active committees as a volunteer for next year. [More]

Katherine Sietz P ’04
The student-run Milton Outdoor Club (MOC) in conjunction with
the Milton Academy Outdoor Program hosted the 6th annual MOC
indoor climbing competition on Sunday, February 29. Twenty

Class I 2004 Parent
Gift
To date, 58 percent of Class I families have made a gift to
the Class I 2004 Parent Gift. Committee members are still
working to reach each family who has yet to contribute. To
mark the success of the Class I 2004 Parent Gift drive and
the Class of 2004 graduation, the committee is planning a
class picture of the Class of 2004 on June 3, 2004, the evening
before graduation, which will then be mailed to every Class
I parent. The hope is that every family will join with their
presence and also join in contributing to the Class I gift.
More details will follow soon. Our goal is 100 percent participation,
so please consider making your gift today. Please contact
Perry Buroker, director of annual giving, at (617) 898-2375
or perry_buroker@milton.edu.
Class I gifts and pledges must be received by June 30, 2004.
Project 2004
The Class of 2004 kicked off their senior class giving effort
just before spring vacation. Led by Emily Ebert and Head Monitors
Sophie Suberman and Tom Myers, the class hopes to have a high
rate of participation. The record to beat is 81 percent set
by the Class of 2002. Money raised for Project 2004 will support
the day-to-day operating expenses of the School.
