We Face Challenges, Too
With most of the activities for this year
behind us, the Parents’ Association is beginning preparations
for the 2005-06 school year.
As half of Milton students are boarding students, we will
continue to think creatively about ways to help parents from
further away feel more connected to the Milton community.
To keep our organization strong and vibrant, we need to create
meaningful opportunities for interested parents to contribute
to Parents’ Association events -- from nearby neighborhoods
as well as distant continents.
In addition, the Executive Board is working to maximize our
resources when planning next year’s events. We receive
no subsidy from Milton Academy, relying on just two sources
of income: dues, which are paid voluntarily by parents, and
the proceeds from our annual Summer Opportunities Fair. Each
year, the costs of guest speakers, parent dinners, mailings,
and the many events we sponsor are barely covered by, and
occasionally exceed, our income. Since there is no “rainy
day fund” from which to draw money, it’s important
that we evaluate the variety of events we sponsor and their
value to the larger Milton community each year.
