Spring Sports Prospectus
from Milton Academy Coaches

Baseball
The Milton Academy varsity baseball team is ready and eager to compete again for the ISL championship. The 2003 team won the league title and the varsity teams in the ‘00 years have been competitive each season.

This team has four returning players from last year's 9-6 team that graduated ten seniors. We are led by captain Andrew deStadler and seniors Spencer Platt , Colby Tucker, and Doug Sibor. Returning junior pitchers are Dan Zailskas and Nate Anschuetz. Three players from last year's successful JV team, coached by associate director of admissions and former Milton student-athlete, Greg Marsh, have made the varsity team. These players are Lyman Bullard, Ed Fallon, and Andrew Tsanotelis. Andrew Koris, Mike Kinnealley, Tim Walsh and Mike Matczak are other sophomores who will see considerable time.

Games versus defending champion Belmont Hill, Roxbury Latin, BBN, and Thayer will be key match-ups this spring.

Softball
Milton softball is off to a promising start with two solid wins over Rivers and St. George’s. The team has been led by senior captain and pitching ace Sara Pulit and sophomore catcher Caitlin O'Malley. The Milton team has been substantially strengthened from top to bottom with the addition of seniors Grace and Joyce Lam. Returning senior outfielders Bettina Vinios and Paige Kretschmar have stepped up their game, while juniors Katherine Marr and Lora-Faye Whelan promise to add depth and versatility to the roster. Milton’s softball future is promising as a number of talented freshmen and sophomores are also contributing. Although there will surely be some tough games ahead, we feel we can compete with the best.

Boys’ Lacrosse
The Mustangs bring the title of defending ISL Champions into the 2005 season and are riding a 20-game unbeaten streak over three seasons. Leading this year's squad will be co-captain and four-year letter winner Zac Trudeau and co-captain defenseman Michael O’Sullivan. Attackmen Matt Enright, Alex Dey, Jamal Sabky and David Perry, along with senior midfielders Ryan Walsh, Laurence Duggan, Cullen Winkler, Charles Gill and Brad Hunnewell, bring a wealth of experience and talent to this senior-laden team. The defensive corps is aided by Michael Greenberg, Andrew Froude, Michael Giannone, and Tony Blout.

Key match-ups this spring look to be Middlesex, St. Sebastian's, Governor Dummer, and the annual rival game with Nobles on May 23.

Girls’ Lacrosse
The team is quickly off to a 2-0 start, and is looking forward to a strong season for 2005. Many of the returning players have come back stronger and improved from last season, which gives us a solid nucleus. We have taken much more of a team approach with all aspects of our game, especially with our offensive attack. The scoring, as it has been in our first two games, will be spread out among many attackers this season. Newcomers this year will also help us a lot. Alyson Friedensohn will start for us this season in the midfield while goalkeeper Amanda Rothschild will backstop the team in the nets. We expect strong leadership and performances from co-captains Lindsay McNamara and Jenna Larson, as well as Teresa Curtis and Sarah Ebert up front and Stephanie Richards and Maggie Cochran on defense.

Track
The 2005 track team appears stocked with proven champions as well as young guns looking to make their mark. There are over 60 athletes involved with the program and they are enjoying the fine weather outdoors as things get under way.

2004 New England pole vault champion John Lingos-Webb returns with junior captain Bailey Carroll to anchor a strong group of jumpers. Sophomore Rashaun Laforce and senior Will Lawrence will also help the scoring for the jumpers. Senior captain Taylor LeMelle, senior 2004 ISL Champion Max Hoffman and sophomore Alex Desaulniers will lead the throwers. We should look for Shellonda Andersen to make a run at the all-time Milton record in the high jump this season.

Stacey Harris, Rory Kennedy, Jasmine Reid and Bliss Samara will form the base for the female hurdlers.
