Service Learning Programs

Community Service Learning and Special Projects
Fundraisers for special causes
AIDS, disaster relief, local public school and shelter supplies
Senior Project sponsorship
Internships at area schools and daycares, as well as agencies serving elders, disabled, and homeless populations. Examples from recent years: Taylor Elementary School (Dorchester), Collicott School French immersion program (Milton), Women’s Lunch Place (Boston), Milton Animal Shelter, Children’s AIDS Project (Mattapan), Milton Residences for the Elderly, Boston Home  (multiple sclerosis)
Special programs organized through courses:
Choral performances for local elders, science class assistance at Brookwood Farm, English students tutoring Boston peers in writing, art projects promoting social justice issues
French 4 service learning project
Students study about Haiti in French class, then interview children in the bilingual Haitian Creole/English program at Taylor Elementary School, Dorchester; interview Haitian staff working at Milton Academy in Dining Services and Facilities Dept.
Cooperation on service activities with other student clubs

Asian Society – regular ESL tutoring in Chinatown
Latino Association – Mural for Mujeres Unidas en Accion

Class IV and III – mitten and pajama drives for local children

Boys basketball team – court time with Brookview shelter kids
Advisor Group Project
Food Bank, Special Olympics, meal preparation for Rosie's Place, fundraising for local families in need

Inter-Scholastic Conference on Community Service
Started by Milton's CS Board 15 years ago and held at various independent schools since then
