jazzOn Saturday, Milton students took part in the 46th Annual Berklee College of Music High School Jazz Festival at Hynes Auditorium in Boston. Over 200 student groups (more than 3,000 students from 13 states) participated in the event, making it the largest high school jazz festival in the country. Milton’s jazz combo competed in the medium- to small-sized high school combo category.

“The group played very well and received rave reviews from all four judges,” said music faculty member Bob Sinicrope.

Milton’s students were awarded fourth place in their category. Johnnie Gilmore (I) also received a judge’s award for outstanding musician of his combo. Group members included Scott Pedersen (I) on flute, Miles Awofala (II) on alto sax, Alex Garnick (II) and Corey Schwaitzberg (I) on piano, Charlie Janeway (I) on guitar, Johnnie Gilmore (I) on bass, and Eric Menna (I) on drums.
