11-02_yoshi_1On Sunday, February 6, Yoshi Makishima (I) placed second honors at the 2011 Shakespeare Competition for High School Students, hosted by the Boston chapter of the English-Speaking Union of the United States. Twenty-seven public, private and parochial schools from around Massachusetts competed in the contest. Each participating student performed a monologue from one of Shakespeare’s plays and recited one of his sonnets. Finalists were required to perform a “cold reading” of a monologue selected by the English-Speaking Union (ESU).

The English-Speaking Union sponsors educational programs for students and teachers, as well as lectures and social events. For more information about the ESU or the Shakespeare Competition, visitwww.esuus.org.
