Milton Academy, established in 1798, is an independent coeducational national boarding and day school, serving 1,000 students in grades K-12, on a 125-acre campus eight miles south of Boston.
Milton is seeking a full-time counselor to provide sabbatical coverage in the Upper School Health and Counseling Center during the 2019-2020 academic year. Candidates must have a demonstrated ability to work in a diverse community and must also be able to fulfill on-call duties, which typically include one night per week and one weekend per month.
Minimum requirements include an advanced degree in social work or clinical psychology (LICSW, LMHC, PsyD or PhD preferred), a valid Massachusetts license to practice therapy, and experience providing individual therapy to adolescents.
In addition to their work with individual students, each counselor oversees specific programs, such as student-led peer discussion groups or the elective Human Sexuality and Relationships course. Counselors also teach in the affective education program. Each week, counselors meet in group supervision with their fellow counselors and with Milton’s psychiatric consultant.
This position requires high energy, enthusiasm and optimism about children and adolescents. In addition, counselors must work closely and collaboratively with the Health Center team, students, parents, administrators and teachers.
Milton Academy welcomes candidates who would add to the racial, cultural and gender balance of the School community. Milton Academy is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
