Robert Saltonstall Gymnasium (RSG)
The historic Robert Saltonstall Gymnasium (RSG), built in 1921 as the athletic facility for the boys’ school, houses physical education classrooms, athletic offices, and an indoor basketball court that also serves as a large assembly space. The building is named for Robert Saltonstall, a Trustee from 1914–1930.
Upper School students are drawn to the H. Adams Carter ’32 Climbing Wall where are introduced to our indoor Project Adventure course which is central to team building during students' first year at Milton. The building also hosts Milton's home wrestling matches during the winter season. On the first level, a recently renovated football locker room and other changing spaces are adjacent to the school’s equipment room, which outfits today’s Milton Mustangs with uniforms and safety equipment.
The rich history and achievements of generations of Milton athletes are recognized in the halls of the RSG, which holds many trophies and historical photos of teams—some dating back more than 100 years.
The rear of the RSG faces Stokinger Field, named for Herbert Stokinger, Class of 1924, a member of the faculty from 1928 to 1971.
