Milton Academy, established in 1798, is an independent coeducational national boarding and day school, serving 1,000 students in grades K-12 on a 125-acre campus eight miles south of Boston.
Milton Academy is seeking a full-time Upper School Director of Academic Support with a demonstrated ability to work in a diverse community. The position begins in September 2020.
The Director of Academic Support provides leadership, direction, and instruction to support the academic growth of students in the Upper School. The director reports to the Upper School academic dean and consults as needed with the middle and lower school learning specialists to provide a school-wide perspective on academic support.
The director is responsible for ensuring that upper school students have access to appropriate support resources. In collaboration with the academic dean, the director develops clear practices and policies regarding appropriate support structures for students with diagnosed learning differences and helps teachers implement individual academic learning plans for those students.
For students and their families, the director provides relevant information about allied professionals (support groups, clinicians, educational therapists, tutors, etc.), interprets psycho-educational testing, and creates comprehensive individual academic learning plans for students with diagnosed learning differences. The director also provides one-on-one and group instruction for students in need of support. In addition, the director supervises the assistant director of academic support. Additional responsibilities include: collaborating with the Admission staff during and after the application season; advising the Student Support, Academic Advisory and Language Waiver Committees; and serving as the SSD Coordinator for the College Board and ACT. Applicants must have a degree in special education or a related field. At least four years of experience is preferred. Certification is not required.
All faculty members advise 6-8 students. Faculty members residing on campus typically live and work in a dormitory and all teachers living on campus have responsibilities in the residential program.
