Summary of Position:
Milton Academy is seeking a Middle School Athletic Director to provide short-term leave coverage from late April through September 2025. This position offers a flexible summer schedule based on the needs of the school. This role oversees the athletic program for Grades 6-8, ensuring alignment with the vision and goals of the Middle and Upper School interscholastic and intramural athletic programs, fostering skill development, self-discipline, teamwork, and sportsmanship.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
- Provide leadership for all aspects of the middle school athletics program while collaborating with colleagues to align program goals with the school’s mission.
- In collaboration with the Upper School Associate Director of Athletics, recruit, train, supervise, and evaluate all coaches, ensuring clear expectations, effective oversight, and constructive feedback and support.
- Manage all administrative details associated with interscholastic and intramural programs, including budgeting, scheduling, arranging transportation, setting up officials for games, and ensuring adequate set-up of facilities.
- Coordinate, communicate and confirm with commissioners for each sport to secure officials for all home contests.
- Coordinate and communicate with the Upper School Athletic Director in all areas that relate to the afternoon program in order to foster a comprehensive 6-12 athletic program
- Effectively communicate program values, policies, and information to families and students at the beginning of year, each season, and through assembly gatherings.
- Work with the Equipment Managers in keeping an accurate inventory of equipment, assess needs, and order equipment and uniforms each season.
- Collaborate and communicate with athletic training staff, middle school counselor, deans/advisors, and parents, on any injuries, concussions, social/emotional issues that may arise, or any other health concerns.
- Serve as event/game manager on all Game Days; ensure buses are on time, greet officials and opponents, ensure that all contests run smoothly, and be available for any issues or problems that arise on game day.
Other Middle School Responsibilities:
All middle school employees are expected to attend morning assemblies, faculty and staff meetings, grade-level meetings, departmental meetings, and professional development. During the academic year, all Middle School employees are expected to be ready to welcome students into our space at 8:00 a.m. and, in this role, to remain on campus until 4:00 p.m.
