We welcomed Jonathan Schroeder ’99 back to campus as a Henry R. Heyburn ’39 Lecture in History Fund speaker earlier this month. Jonathan shared the powerful story of discovery behind The United States Governed by Six Hundred Thousand Despots, a book he edited and published this year. The book features a first-person liberation narrative written by John Swanson Jacobs—a Black man who escaped slavery in America—that had run in an Australian newspaper in 1855 but had never been published in the United States. Read more about Jonathan’s visit.
