Dear members of the Milton Academy community,

After my message of May 9, which detailed Milton’s approach to sexual misconduct— our protocols, practices, and educational efforts—we received allegations of sexual abuse occurring at Milton several decades ago. In response, we have engaged the expertise of Laura Kirschstein, vice president at T&M Protection Resources. Ms. Kirschstein directs the firm’s sexual misconduct and investigations division. Her team has extensive experience in helping schools thoroughly and respectfully respond to these situations. While you may always contact me directly, I urge you to contact Ms. Kirschstein at lkirschstein@tmprotection.com or 212-916-8852 if you have information you believe to be relevant. Any conversation with Ms. Kirschstein will be treated confidentially.

None of the information we have received references any current member of Milton’s faculty or staff. As I noted in my recent message, responding to allegations of sexual abuse that may have occurred several decades ago is inherently challenging. Today’s school leaders must respond with care, compassion, and appropriate action. As a School, we are committed to responding in this way.

Given privacy and confidentiality concerns, we may be limited in what we are able to share, both now and in the future. Guided by expert external counsel, Milton’s leadership team, the board of trustees and I will ensure that the investigation process and its resolution are responsible, judicious and complete.

I thank you for your support of Milton as we proceed.

Sincerely,

Todd B. Bland
Head of School
