As the first boys’ and girls’ teams from the same school to win the New England and ISL championships, the Milton ski teams made history. Wrapping up the ISL season this week, with a dual ISL championship, Milton’s Boys and Girls Alpine Ski Teams were crowned New England and ISL Champions.

The excitement began on Sunday, February 17, when Milton’s Ski Teams traveled to the Eaglebrook Ski Club at Mount Pocumtack, the host of the 2002 NEPSAC Division II Alpine Skiing Championships. Although unexpected weather forced single-run events, the day of racing was exciting. The boys successfully defended their NE Championship, winning by 45 points, while the girls were crowned New England Champions, topping archrival Middlesex by one point.

Senior Maile Carter (I) won the girls’ slalom with a time of 39.96 seconds and Anne Sklar (III) finished 13th with a time of 47.27 seconds. For the boys, Matt Basilico (II) placed second with a time of 37.17 seconds and Scott Motejunas (III) placed fifth with a time of 37.68.

In the giant slalom, Laurel Carter (IV) was first for the girls with a time of 40.59 while older sister Maile finished third with a time of 40.73. Matt Basilico had another great finish placing third with a time of 39.19 followed by teammate Scott Motejunas with a sixth place time of 40.02.

Congratulations to the accomplished skiiers.
