The award-winning Milton Academy jazz program, adds another first to its impressive list of accomplishments with an invitation by the Charles Hotel’s Regattabar, Boston’s premier jazz venue, to hold a CD release party there on March 9 at 3 p.m. Three days later, the group will leave for a 19-day concert tour in South Africa. During their tour, the students will not only bring music to the townships and people of South Africa, but also much-needed musical instruments, equipment and books to South African schools. This year marks the fourth time Milton musicians will travel to South Africa, and the contacts forged during previous visits promise a richer collaboration than ever before. Among the students’ many activities on tour, they will perform and record music specially commissioned for them to play with the students of the Johannesburg Township Music Academy, and they will be honored at a gala night at the U.S. Embassy.
