In St. Petersburg, Russia, Rebecca Doggett (Class I) performed, as a soloist, the Mozart Clarinet Concerto with the St. Petersburg State Symphony Orchestra. The concert took place on May 7 in the State University Hall, the site of this month’s Summit talks between President Bush and President Putin.
Rebecca’s invitation came from Sviatoslav Luther, the orchestra’s conductor, as a result of her winning the Boston Symphony Orchestra Concerto Competition in 2001 and being honored with an award from the Harvard Musical Association this year.
Although rehearsals occupied most of her time, Rebecca found ample opportunity to visit the Winter Palace and Hermitage Art Museum, see Swan Lake performed by the Kirov Ballet at the beautiful Mariinsky Theatre, and take in the sights and sounds of this historic, magnificent city.
