Head Coach: Matt Petherick
Matt Petherick is entering his 12th year at the helm for Milton Academy. Matt took over a 3-13 squad and in his first year went 9-7, earning ISL Coach of the Year honors. Coach Petherick came to Milton in 2009 from Nipmuc Regional High School where he was the Varsity Head Coach for three years, leading the team to the State tournament each year. Prior to being the Head Coach, he was an assistant on Nipmuc’s 2005 State Championship team. Additionally, Coach Peth has coached at the American Legion level (Pitching Coach, West Boylston Post 204), handled private lessons for all ages, and also done talent evaluation for New England area High School and College Showcases. Coach has sent multiple players to play baseball at the college level, including numerous multi-sport players who went on to play other sports (see below). During the 2016 season, Milton was crowned ISL Champs helped by two time league MVP and current professional player Matt Tabor.
A graduate of Brandeis University, Coach Petherick played and learned under legendary Head Coach Pete Varney and also learned under the tutelage of current Wheaton College Head Coach Eric Podbelski and current Bowdoin College Head Coach Michael Connolly. Matt was a four year member of the Varsity team and part of the winningest class in Brandeis history (NCAA tournament participants all four years), including a season-high 33 wins during his senior season. The 1999 season culminated in a trip to the 1999 College World Series in Virginia. Coach was named 3rd team All New England in 1998, the same season he set the school record for hits in a season.
Prior to arriving at Brandeis, Coach Petherick attended the Roxbury Latin School where he was a three sport Varsity captain as a senior, earning numerous All ISL honors.
Coach works full time at Milton in the Athletics and History Departments, an assistant coach on the Girls Varsity Hockey team and lives in Hallowell House with his wife and two kids. In the summers, Coach Peth coaches with Northeast Baseball.
