Coaches and Captains

1st Team (Varsity)

Head Coach:  Matt Petherick

Matt Petherick is entering his 6th year at the helm for Milton Academy.  Coach Petherick took over a 3-13 squad and in his first year went 9-7, earning ISL Coach of the Year honors. He came to Milton in 2009 from Nipmuc Regional High School where he was the Varsity Head Coach for three years, leading the team to the state tournament each year. Prior to being the Head Coach, he was an assistant on Nipmuc’s 2005 State Championship team.  Additionally, Coach P has coached at the American Legion level (Pitching Coach, West Boylston Post 204), handled private lessons for all ages, and has also done talent evaluation for New England area High School and College Showcases. Coach has sent multiple players on to play baseball at the college level at schools such as Tufts, Bowdoin, and George Washington.

A graduate of Brandeis University, Coach Petherick played and learned under legendary Head Coach Pete Varney.  He was a four year member of the Varsity team, and part of one of the most successful classes in Brandeis history (NCAA tournament participants all 4 years), including a season high 33 wins during his senior season.  The 1999 season culminated in a trip to the 1999 College World Series in Virginia.  Coach was named 3rd team All New England in 1998, the same season he set the school record for hits in a season. Prior to arriving at Brandeis, Coach Petherick attended the Roxbury Latin School where he was a 3 sport Varsity captain as a senior, earning numerous All ISL honors. Coach works full time at Milton in the Athletics and History Departments, and also helps coach the JV Hockey team.  He and his wife live off campus with their two daughters.
