Milton welcomed poet, educator, and Pulitzer Prize finalist Dorianne Laux to campus this month as one of this year’s Bingham Visiting Writers. Laux read from her latest collection, Life on Earth, and spoke with students about her inspiration and writing process. Laux received the Paterson Prize for her collection The Book of Men, the Oregon Book Award for Facts About the Moon, and has been a finalist for the National Book Critics Circle Award. She was named a finalist for the 2020 Pulitzer Prize in poetry for her book Only as the Day is Long: New and Selected Poems. Check out a video of her reading below.
The Bingham Endowment Fund for Creative Writing was established in 1987 to benefit Milton’s creative writing program. The fund brings prominent authors to campus to read their work and spend time with Upper School writing students. Past Bingham writers include Jamaica Kincaid, Lauren Groff, Paul Yoon, Kamila Shamsie, and Terrance Hayes.
