Five Milton Academy students were recently awarded Gold Keys in the Scholastic Writing Awards Competition’s Region At Large program. The works of 274 students were selected for awards from more than 5,000 pieces submitted this year.
Milton award winners, Ruth Samuelson ’03, Kika Pyclik ’04, Claire Opel ’06 Ian Stearns ’06 and Andrea Harris ’06 will receive Gold Key pins and certificates.
The students’ entries will be sent to New York City, where they will be judged at the national level with other finalists from across the country.
Judges on the national level are among the most well-known and respected artists and writers in America. Past jurors include Kiki Smith, Garrison Keillor, Philip Pearlstein, Nikki Giovanni, Cindy Sherman, Judy Blume, Romaire Beardon, Donald Lipski, Frank McCourt, Pat Steir, and Tom Otterness.
Now in its 80th year, The Scholastic Art & Writing Awards are the largest, longest-running, and most prestigious recognition programs for creative young people in the United States.
