As part of the 2025 DEIJ Speaker Series, Tonantzin Carmona ’08 shared her inspiring journey from Chicago’s Little Village to the White House. The first Latina special assistant to the president for economic policy, she spoke about growth, resilience, and purpose. Now a Brookings fellow, Carmona credits Milton for shaping key skills in public service. From creating Chicago’s first municipal ID to working on Elizabeth Warren’s 2020 campaign, she has prioritized community voices.
