How to Apply to the Lower School
As we plan this school year in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic, the health and safety of our students, faculty, and staff is paramount. To learn more about Milton’s response to COVID-19, please visit www.milton.edu/2020-2021. To support these efforts, the Admission Office will conduct all admission interviews via Zoom and all fall events will be held virtually.
Milton Academy welcomes applications for Kindergarten through Grade 5. Our planned entry points for the Lower School are Kindergarten and Grade 4, but spaces in other grades occasionally become available. At this time, we are fully enrolled in the Lower School for the 2020–2021 school year and are no longer accepting applications. To begin your conversation with Milton Academy for the 2021–2022 school year, complete and submit the Request Information form to add your name to our mailing list. Admission Packets are sent electronically to the email provided.
To begin, families will be directed to create an online account to manage all aspects of the application process:

- Track the status of an application
- View decision letter on March 10
While we encourage families to begin the application process before the deadline, completed applications are due by January 15.
Grade K–5 Application Process
Please submit the online application as soon as possible, but no later than January 15.
Upon receipt, we will create a personal file for your child, and assign him or her to a virtual group visit
(Grade 4 only).
A non-refundable application fee of $65 for domestic applicants and $125 USD for international applicants must be submitted online, along with your application, using Visa, Mastercard or Discover. Fee waivers are available if the fee represents a financial hardship for your family. Please contact the Lower and Middle School Admission Office for details.
All families applying for one of our planned entry points must complete an interview via Zoom with an admission officer. If you have not already scheduled a Zoom interview, please do so by contacting the Lower and Middle School Admission Office at 617-898-2509 as soon as possible. All Zoom interviews must be completed by January 15. In the Kindergarten process, only parents will attend the Zoom interview. In the Grade 4 process, we will have a “Family Zoom” where applicants will attend the Zoom interview for 5–10 minutes, and then the rest of the Zoom will be just parents and the admission officer.
Zoom Group Visits (Grade 4 only)
All applicants for Grade 4 will be scheduled for a virtual group visit via Zoom. This visit is assigned upon receipt of the online application. The Zoom group visit is an essential part of the admission process. It provides an opportunity for the prospective students to learn more about Milton, and for our admission officers to get to know each applicant.
Download the Record Release Form from your online application portal, sign and distribute it to your child’s school administrator to authorize the release of academic records from the current and past year. Please have the administrator email all transcripts to email@example.com
Evaluations: Submitted online (preferred method)
Submit the evaluation request to your child’s current classroom teacher through the online application system. Evaluation forms are available to download if necessary. There is an optional, supplemental recommendation form that can be filled out by a former teacher, coach, tutor, instructor, etc.
Kindergarten Video Assessment (Kindergarten applicants only)
In light of this challenging time, during which we are unable to meet with your child in person, we have collaborated with other Boston-area lower schools to devise a kindergarten assessment plan. This plan will provide opportunities for you to submit videos of your child completing several developmentally-appropriate prompts and tasks. Milton Academy maintains a financial aid budget of $11.4 million. All aid is need-based, and Milton strives to meet 100 percent of the demonstrated need of each accepted student. Awards are reviewed annually, and returning students must reapply for aid each year. To be eligible for financial assistance, parents must submit the Parents’ Financial Statement (PFS) to School and Student Services for Financial Aid (SSS), www.solutionsbysss.com. The PFS must be submitted by January 31 for new families and by January 15 for current Milton families. In addition, the 2019 Federal Tax Forms should be sent to SSS by the respective deadlines above. The school code for Milton Academy is 5098.
