Stories Behind the Impact

You Make a Difference

Donor support touches every corner of our vibrant community at Milton Academy:

  • Faculty have the resources to develop their craft and meet the needs of their students in an exceptional learning environment
  • Hundreds of students have access to financial aid, which makes their Milton education possible
  • Our facilities plans are being realized as we ready the Farokhzad Mathematics Center for a fall opening
  • Students can pursue their interests and develop leadership skills through Milton’s 100+ co-curricular and extracurricular clubs.

Your incredible commitment to Milton Academy makes all of this possible and more. In this video, Brittany Hampton ’02 shares why she gives back to Milton as a donor and volunteer. Please enjoy learning more about our donors and share your own story by emailing us today.

Remaining Connected to Milton

Ben Bosworth ’13 was an active Milton Academy student, participating in cross country, track, and the gospel choir. As a graduate, Ben continues to be very active in the Milton Academy community. He currently serves as a class agent, driving fundraising efforts and engagement with alumni events. Ben shares, “Milton provided an unrivaled high school experience that I treasure to this day. The world-class, comprehensive academics, robust extracurricular opportunities, and supportive community created the foundation for who I am today. I hope to play a small part in fortifying this community for the future.”

As an extension of his continued engagement, Ben also gives back to Milton through a recurring monthly gift to the Milton Fund. He shares, “A recurring gift allows me to keep Milton’s community more consistently top of mind. I enjoy staying in touch with Milton, and a recurring gift allows me to remain connected between fundraising moments.”

Shining a Light on Milton

Mike Kobb ’88 is a principal engineer for a company that develops home theater systems. It’s a fitting career for someone who has long been interested in the behind-the-scenes aspects of movie and theatrical production. Milton Academy provided Mike with opportunities to nurture his passion, and he enjoyed being a part of the A/V team and theater production crew. He shares, “I loved building sets, hanging and focusing lights, and running the light board for the shows.” Although the Ruth King Theatre opened after his graduation, Mike returned to campus to help set up the lights for the facility’s opening ceremony.

Ruth King Theatre was an immense upgrade for the theater program, but its equipment is now aged. Last fall, Mike pledged a gift to improve its lighting system. He shares, “Since professional theaters are transitioning to LED instruments, now is the perfect time to upgrade and ensure the theater can support the creativity that faculty and students bring to their productions. I also want my gift to contribute in some way to maintaining the supportive and nurturing environment that I experienced as a student. The theater provided a welcoming space for students whose talents and interests leaned toward the creative and performing arts, and I hope it continues to do so.”

“I loved my time at Milton. The environment created by the teachers and staff was so incredibly supportive and nurturing. I remain friends with both Milton teachers and students decades later. I want to do what I can to ensure that environment endures.”

The Power of Planned Giving

Growing up on the south side of Chicago, Deval Patrick ’74 enjoyed his extraordinary teachers, but overcrowding and finite resources limited his opportunities. Milton Academy saw his potential and granted him a scholarship to attend.

With guidance from compassionate faculty, he found his intellectual home. “The longest-lasting lesson Milton instilled has been integrity,” Deval shares. “Learning is a lifelong and personal undertaking, a responsibility, and citizenship was part of the expectation. You had a role in building community that went beyond being a student in the classroom. The longer I live, the more important I think those lessons are.”

Today, Deval supports Milton with a planned gift through his will. He speaks powerfully about the benefits of financial aid made possible by philanthropy. “I believe faithfully and deeply that talent exists in every city and town, and that it’s important for people to be exposed to talent that comes from diverse, unexpected places,” Deval says.

“I think it is enormously important that Milton creates opportunities for students who can’t afford it but who bring just as much energy, curiosity, and creativity to the table as students who can.”
